There are times when both parties in a workers’ compensation case, the employer and worker, agree to have an independent evaluation done by a Qualified Medical Evaluator or QME. Agreed Medical Evaluators, AMEs, perform a similar service to Qualified Medical Evaluators, instead, these physicians are typically chosen randomly by going through a list of state-certified doctors. Eval-Docs, Inc. can perform an Agreed Medical Evaluation with our diverse, expert team available throughout Southern California. Learn more about the AME process by calling us at 844-382-5362.
Agreed Medical Evaluations are very similar to Qualified Medical Evaluations. They both examine an injured worker, determining the type, extent, and severity of injuries and how they likely occurred. both kinds of examiners also produce medical-legal documentation that can be used in the legal and workers’ compensation processes.
Where they differ is that QMEs are typically sought by people who are not currently represented by an attorney. At the same time, AMEs are preferred by those with legal representation. When the worker has representation, their attorney and the employer or insurance company negotiate and agree on who will perform the evaluation. This doctor is sometimes chosen at random but can also be found and agreed upon by both parties.
